Be Real

It’s great that the internet has opened up so many channels of expression. Voicing your opinion has never been easier.

This ease of use has also given rise to the use of false identities. Faking who you are on the internet is fairly easy. It only takes an email address to sign-up for most sites. Free email services have made this possible. You can even be frank and earnest. You can be Frank on Gmail and Ernest on Yahoo.

However, by falsifying your identity you do a disservice to yourself and the sites you visit.

It gets worse if you run a business online. False claims and promises will not help you in the long run. Your reputation is at stake.

When you proclaim to the internet at large that you are capable of doing something make sure you can deliver on your promises.

You will not garner any happy clients if you tell them you can fulfill their needs when in reality you cannot.

This poem has been passed down since before 1935 and it still holds true today.

A tiger met a lion as they drank beside a pool.
Said the tiger to the lion, “Why do you keep roaring like a fool?”
“That’s not foolish,” said the lion with a twinkle in his eye,
“For I am called the King of Beasts and it pays to advertise.”
A rabbit heard them talking and he ran home like a streak.
He thought he would try the lion’s trick, but his roar was just a squeak.
A fox was passing by and decided to have lunch in the woods;
And the moral of this story is: Don’t advertise unless you have the goods.

It does pay to advertise, but only when you are true to your clients and to yourself.
