Virtual Assistant Defined

A virtual assistant (VA) is a highly skilled and experienced freelance professional providing administrative support, as well as other specialized services, to businesses, entrepreneurs, executives, sales professionals, and others. VA’s are entrepreneurs and business owners in their own right, and work as independent contractors from their homes or personal offices. They possess an understanding of the business world that employees may not and, as such, have a greater interest in the success of their client’s businesses, since it also impacts theirs.

VA’s primarily coordinate and communicate work assignments over the internet, or by email, disk transfer, etc., as well as through traditional methods such as regular mail, courier, and even pick-up and delivery in local areas. Some VA’s provide on-site services as well in their general vicinity.

The services provided by the VA are governed only by the knowledge, skills, experience, expertise and talents of the VA her/himself. Typical services may include research, word processing, transcription, database management, bookkeeping, email and calendar management, desktop publishing, etc.; pretty much anything and everything that you would do in a physical office setting. Website development, design and maintenance; meeting and event planning; as well as business start-up consulting, may also be offered.
